Frequently Asked Zero Waste Bag Questions

Here is a list of common questions and concerns about recycling with TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Bags. If you don't see an answer to your question here, don't hesitate to contact us.

  • No, ordering your Zero Waste Bags is a one-time purchase and you do not need to be subscribed to our regular composting swapout service. Our regular customers can purchase Zero Waste Bags and leave them out with their composting containers to be collected. Non-customers can purchase Zero Waste Bags and request an on-demand collection here.

  • Yes, you can contact us or email customer service at customerservice@collectiveresourcecompost.coop if you’d like to purchase a bag using an alternative payment method.

  • No, our collection process ensures that the bags and contents arrive safely at our facility.

  • If you’re a customer, your Zero Waste Bag will be delivered on your next swapout date. If you’re not yet a customer, your Zero Waste Bag will be mailed to you within 10 business days.

  • There is no limit on the number of bags you can have collected each month. You can purchase additional Zero Waste Bags at any time through our website.

  • Check out our service area map.

  • For our regular composting customers, we will collect your Zero Waste Bag with your next pickup date between the hours of 7:00am and 8:00pm. For non-customers, you can request a pickup here and we will collect your Zero Waste Bag within 10 business days according to when our trucks are in your service area.

  • When you request your pickup, you will be asked to fill in the number of Zero Waste Bags being collected. This allows us to best serve all customers. You can email us at customerservice@collectiveresourcecompost.coop with any updates the day before the scheduled pickup.

  • All items must fit in the provided Zero Waste Bag and the bag must be able to stay closed. We do not collect loose items or open Zero Waste Bags. If you need more Zero Waste Bags, you can order them any time. All Zero Waste Bags list the stream that bag can be used for. Please select only one waste stream to include in that bag.

  • Please only put recyclable items from one specific waste stream in each Zero Waste Bag. Mark the checkbox for that waste stream on the bag to indicate what’s inside.

  • You do not need to clean the waste before putting it in the Zero Waste Bag, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible. If possible, please rinse out containers before including them in your recycling.

  • No, you will need to purchase additional Zero Waste Bags. Drivers do not carry extra Zero Waste Bags. Zero Waste Bags can be purchased at any time.

  • We do not accept any trash or waste stream that is not included in the accepted waste streams printed on the Zero Waste Bags and listed on our Zero Waste Bags page. If you are unsure or have a specific product question, please contact us at customerservice@collectiveresourcecompost.coop.

  • Different waste streams are accepted by different size Zero Waste Bags. Choose one stream listed on your Zero Waste Bag to collect that stream in the bag. If you are unsure or have a specific product question, please contact us or email us at customerservice@collectiveresourcecompost.coop.

  • After we collect your Zero Waste Bags, they are sent to TerraCycle’s facilities for recycling. TerraCycle guarantees that they recycle all compliant materials that are collected. The items are received by TerraCycle’s material recovery partners, where they are sorted into individual material components. Each material is then recycled into a raw format that can be used to make new products.
